The Madison, Gallatin, Missouri, and the Henry's Fork are some of the big names in Montana trout waters that we work and provide information on, we also are surrounded by a myriad of high alpine lakes and reservoirs and smaller streams. The purpose of this section is to describe the fishing on these different waters to give you an idea of what you might expect on a fishing trip out here. |
| The Madison has long been called the 50 mile riffle, as it is a relatively shallow river, averaging only about 3 feet in depth. Much of it is swiftly moving water and it is loaded with trout and trout habitat, sometimes it seems as though there isn't a single bad place to land a fly in the whole river. The banks offer excellent habitat for brown trout and the highly oxygenated runs hold a solid number of rainbows and mountain whitefish, the river's shallow depth makes for some of the finest dry fly fishing on Earth, as there are few deep holes for fish to retreat into and all can see a fly floating on the surface just as well as they might eyeball a nymph tumbling down the current five or six feet upstream of their position. | ![]() |
