Madison River

Some of us call the Madison "God's own trout stream," and if there was a stream in heaven, it'd have to look something like this. The river is fertile with lots of insect life, and the fish are strong and healthy, offering the angler some of the greatest sport in trout fishing.
The upper water, from Slide Inn to Lyons bridge is closed to fishing from boats which gives the wade fisherman a 15 mile or so section to work without the traffic of boat anglers, the lower section is long enough for boats to spread out in even on the more crowded days of the salmonfly hatch, giving anglers a good chance to feel what it is like to be fishing in Montana. The river lies in a beautiful and classic Montana valley with wide open expanses and is framed in by the glaciated Madison Range on one side and the lower more gentle Gravelly mountains on the west. Bald and golden eagles abound along with ospreys, hawks, deer, antelope, and the rather elusive badgers.
